DROP API

At Drop©, we aim to provide a 100% safe platform for artists and record labels to reach new playlist audiences without risking exposure to bots, fake streams and take-downs.

To do this, we utilize the data provided by Spotify’s API to verify and consistently monitor the authenticity of every playlist in our network.

WHAT IS API?

API [Application Programming Interface] is a software intermediary which allows two different applications to talk to each other [e.g Spotify & Drop©].

Spotify provides an open-source API to developers, which grants unlimited access to the data Spotify holds on every playlist, artist and release on the platform.

By plugging into this data, we’re able to analyse and monitor millions of data points from the playlists we work with, ensuring every audience in our network is genuine, engaged and fully compliant with Spotify’s terms of service.

There are many different factors we take into account when monitoring playlists, but the 3 main data sets we study are listed below:

Drop Playlist Promotion

Follower Fluctuations

The amount of followers gained or lost by a playlist in every 24 hour period

By monitoring this data in real-time, Drop© can detect and flag any suspicious streaming / following activity as it happens, keeping your release and Artist account protected at all times.

AN EXAMPLE OF DROP API IN ACTION

• A playlist with 10,000 followers receives a sudden increase of 2,500 followers in the space of 72 hours
• At the same time, audience engagement [streams and saves] decreases and the geographical source of streams shows a noticeable increase from an obscure country or city
• In this instance, the playlist is flagged for investigation by our Curator team and if acceptable proof of the new audience source isn’t provided, the playlist and curator are permanently removed from the Drop© network

Why is this so important?

Securing genuine third-party playlist placements for your music is crucial to discovering new listeners and building positive data around your release [which in turn leads to support from the Spotify algorithm, more recommendations to new listeners, more Discover Weekly placements and the attention of Spotify’s editorial curators].

However, just as genuine playlist placements can provide a major boost to your Spotify traction, placements on fake / botted playlists can seriously impact your ‘score’ with Spotify’s algorithm, and even lead to your song being removed from the streaming service entirely.

Before Drop©, artists and labels have been balancing the value of third-party playlisting with the risk of fake streams, botted followers and Spotify violations.

We truly believe there is a better way, and that’s why thousands of artists, record labels and playlist curators have joined our mission to create a safer, fairer and more ethical playlist platform for everyone.
